While in the U.S. Senate, Denton used the NFF to rally bipartisan support for many of the successful pieces of legislation which he originated and managed on the floor of the U.S. Senate. For example:

1.

To keep the Communists in Nicaragua from successful incursion into El Salavador and the rest of Central America, Denton proposed and won bi-partisan support for an aid program for El Salvador, by which U.S. military aircraft on a space available basis were authorized to transport aid donated by private organizations to El Salvador and other Central American countries at no expense to the donor.. The program was expanded the following year to include the entire world. The program still exists and has carried over 30,000,000 pounds of much needed aid to countries around the globe. Named the Denton Program, it is the predecessor of TRANSFORM which provides commercial land, sea and air space. Commercial space is 80% of our entire transport capability while the U.S. Air Force used by the Denton Program is only 0.04%. Thus there is vastly more potential to the TRANSFORM Program which grants a tax break and other incentives to the commercial transporters.

2.

The Equal Access Bill which mandates that religious groups and clubs can use school facilities for religious activities on an equal basis with secular groups and clubs.

3.

The Amerasian Children’s Bill which granted priority to children illegitimately fathered by American citizens in Vietnam, Korea and other Asian countries to be adopted in the United States by properly qualified adoptees.

4.

The Adolescent Family Life Bill was passed as a result of a number of NFF conferences, NFF media events, etc, which permitted a unanimous vote on the Labor and Human Resources Committee and a passage on the floor by acclamation. Having been pilloried by the media and expected to have little chance of passing, the bill offered an alternative to the Planned Parenthood approach to Family Planning in dealing with sex education and teenagers. Instead of pre-marital sex with contraceptives with abortion as a backup method of birth control, the AFL Bill allowed parents and pastors into the process and based the education on abstinence, with adoption in case of pregnancy or advised the mother on how to raise the child. The Abstinence Program now run by the states with a block grant from the Federal Government owes its existence to this bill. Eunice Kennedy Schriver became a good friend of the Senator and helped him lobby for this bill among Democrats. Since then, the Bill has been amended slightly, but it still stands as the founding of the present popular abstinence-based sex education.

5.

The AWACS Bill which authorized the sale of the highly capable defensive weapon to Saudi Arabia to prevent Iraqi aggression, and preserve security and access to oil in the area.

6.

The Denton Amendment which extended the time for which reserves could be retained after being called up. The limit had been a ridiculous 30 days, and Denton’s bill extended this to 60 days and further stipulated that at the end of the 60 days, if the President deemed it necessary they could be retained until the emergency was over. Desert Storm could not have been won without this bill.

7.

Meetings, forums, media interviews and conferences all called by the NFF were most influential in gaining the necessary bi-partisan support for these and other important measures emphasizing national security, national principles, issues of the family especially children and international humanitarian and domestic welfare reform.
