III. Review and Summary Appeal

Our founding principles, contained in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution with its Bill of Rights, the Northwest Ordinance and our other founding documents, were revolutionary, unique, and produced a form of government proclaimed as the greatest form of government ever conceived by the minds of men, according to our former enemy Lord Gladstone, the great Prime Minister of England.

A. Our founding fathers in adopting these principles included the concept that God, not government, is the source of man’s equal rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The government was seen as the servant of the people whose principal job it was to see that our citizens indeed had access to those rights, and to punish individuals who by their over-indulgence infringed on another man’s rights.

B. The federal government was given limited powers, weakened further by the three branches having checks on each other.

C. The founders knew that by endowing an unprecedented degree of freedom to its citizens, under a government rendered relatively weak in power, that the success of this untried combination depended on the citizens persevering in the self-discipline derived from their strong religious belief to constrain them not to abuse these rights. The founders realized that as prosperity grew, so would temptations toward weaker adherence to the religious constraint. The government installed The Bible and Ten Commandments in schools at all levels of education where they were taught and put into action.

D. Still, many of the founders doubted that the system would work, and all of them realized the risk, and often referred to the governmental system they had established as: The Great Experiment. Would religious morality persevere in the face of increasing prosperity? That was and is the fulcrum upon which the American experiment is balanced.

E. The Founders’ experiment was successful for two centuries as the nation grew in all categories of power: economic, political, sociological and military. The United States became the most powerful, and for a time, the most admired nation worldwide. It still attracts immigrants to its shores in record numbers. We are dangerously decaying but we are still the best!

F. But now our founding national principles which are the indispensable roots of our success, are opposed by a substantial portion of our population, and leftist activists have succeeded in converting our government into going their way to the point that our laws do not reflect our National Motto: In God We Trust. Our culture has become what was recently known as the counter culture. The Culture of Death has flown in the face of the belief that God is the author of Life and man cannot undertake to violate his right by aborting life. God is the author of Liberty and hence the constraints on individual liberty are His to dictate as He did by handing Moses the Ten Commandments which are summed up by Jesus’ “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

G. We are committing national suicide. Our sickened sociological state has a tragic cost in human happiness, especially among children and adolescents who are increasingly considered as an inconvenience rather than a treasure, and their lives are taken increasingly before or after delivery from the womb. Our rates of mental illness and suicide among young people is horrific, and it would seem that in consideration of our habit of eliminating tens of millions of babies annually in the womb, that we would at least take care of the ones who manage to avoid being aborted or committing suicide. The sexual revolution is manifestly accepted and proliferated by our entertainment media and by atheistic attitudes found throughout our culture, including our schools.

H. The economic cost to the government to aid the casualties produced as a consequence of this new culture is staggering, The immense sums spent to eliminate aids should be accompanied by governmental officials or medical professionals making strong suggestions that abstinence would be easier, safer and much less expensive. Similarly, Abstinence-based teen-age sex education programs have been proving much more successful than the Planned Parenthood and similar approaches based on free sex, contraception, and abortion. Extensive effort is being made by dishonest reporters and “researchers” to hide that fact

I. The cost of the crimes committed by products of dysfunctional families, the cost of the social programs to pay for the missing child support payments, the cost of the prisons, mental hospitals, rehabilitation centers for drug addicts, sex abusers, people who refuse or are unable to work as a result of cultural effects on their minds and bodies, and the cost in productivity and taxes is incalculable. If these costs were simply added up and publicized, the shock might motivate many to think again about the consequences of our nation separating itself from God and His laws.

J. The Admiral Jeremiah Denton Foundation realizes that many people have finally been outraged enough to become active in the effort to return this nation to aspiring to be One Nation under God. Their numbers have increased as the reasons for outrage have increased. The recent death of Ronald Reagan, the presidential election campaign of George W. Bush and his adamant persistence on the right side of this issue, and the death of Pope John Paul II are not coincidental in being a focal point of national attention. These concurrent developments, almost a miracle, have combined to present a remarkable Window of Opportunity for those who would restore America to its original greatness.
